How to Recover a Dell Vostro 1320 from Bad BIOS Flash – Toshiba Dell Laptop Repair Montreal

Recover BIOS on Dell Vostro 1320

In case bad flush occurs, in my experience with the Dell Vostro 1320 Laptop, the monitor was completely black (off) no courser flashing or any indications besides the quick launch lights where lit. I stayed days trying to troubleshoot the issue until I found the fix.

  • Recommended 1 GB USB stick. Format to FAT (ONLY)
  • Formatting a USB Flash drivewith command prompt. Go to start menu click on Run -> type cmd, click ok. In the command prompt window (Black Window) You should see some writings like C:/Documents and settings etc. Type in the command line: Format G: /FS:FAT. Depending on your USB drive letter. Make sure you check what your USB letter is so you won’t format your computer recovery partition.
  • Download the latest BIOS (executable file) from Dell website
  • Extract or Run the Executable file on any computer ( DO not install).
  • Go to C:WINDOWS\TEMP\WINPHLASH look for BIOS.ROM and rename the file to BIOS.WPH
  • Move BIOS.WPH, WinPhlash64.exe, PhlashNT.sys and MINIDOS.SYS (from CRISDISK) to the formatted FAT USB stick.
  • You could also use Crisdisk (Recommended) to help formatting the USB flash. However, make sure you add BIOS.WPH, WinPhlash64.exe and PhlashNT.sys to the USB flash since the ones in the crisdisk folder are not compatible with VOSTRO 1320.
  • Remove the Laptop battery and unplug the AC power.
  • Plug the 1GB USB Stick in the USB slot on the Laptop for Repair.
  • Hold down the power button for 10 seconds (leave the laptop power unplugged during this time).
  • Hold down the SHIFT key (only) and plug the power cable. The power led will flash orange.
  • Power on the laptop, (Press the power button). Keep holding the SHIFT key for 10 seconds then release it. The fan will start spinning loud and the Quick launch will either turn on or flashing light on the laptop.
  • Wait 10 – 20 minutes for the BIOS to complete the processes and flash your BIOS. However, if the laptop doesn’t restarts on its own, try to manually doing so.

This fix may apply on the following brands, Dell Laptop Repair, Toshiba Laptop, Samsung Laptop, HP Laptop, Compaq Laptop, Lenovo IBM Laptop, Acer Laptop, Asus Laptop
